24 7 Parking Comment On The Rise In ‘Ghost Fines’ Based On CCTV Evidence

February 1st, 2010

London, England (January 29, 2010) – 24 7 parking, experts in finding affordable long term parking in London, comment on the increase in people receiving ‘ghost fines’ and parking tickets based purely on CCTV evidence.

Figures suggest that up to one in three fines have been issued by councils with relevant CCTV powers – 24 council bodies out of 33 – after CCTV has captured cars parked on double yellow lines outside of schools and box junctions. Once captured, a fine will be sent to the person’s postal address of up to £120.

In London alone last year, just under six million penalty charge notices were issued for human error when parking in London. In some boroughs, a third of those fines were based on CCTV evidence alone. Motoring groups are in strong opposition to the cameras, claiming they are purely a measure to generate income and make traffic wardens’ jobs entirely defunct.

“CCTV cameras are on the increase if these figures are anything to go by, and it seems as though the average driver is again being stung in the pocket by unscrupulous councils looking to earn a quick buck,” said Peter Cooper of 24 7 Parking. “Parking in London. “This seems to be the biggest earner for local councils and the legitimacy of these cameras must surely be called into question in the near future. People worried about looking for London parking before setting out on a journey should enlist the services of companies such as 24 7 Parking to ensure they aren’t bitten hard by parking fines.”

24 7 Parking warn motorists as record council parking fine increase

January 2nd, 2010

London, England  – 24 7 parking, experts in finding accessible parking in London, are today warning all motorists and drivers to keep a vigilant eye on where they park as news spreads of councils recording record profits through parking fines.

Local council authorities made a turnover of £328 million in the last year alone, more than three times the amount raised through speed cameras. Over 265 local councils throughout the UK now have the power to enforce parking in their areas and receive the full amount of fines accumulated.

Parking in London saw some of the biggest increases, with Chelsea and Kensington councils receiving, on average, £85 per fine, with the total of some area’s parking fines reaching a high of £41,869,000. This is despite Government guidelines that council powers shouldn’t be incorporated to bolster funds, with independent transport groups registering outrage at the amount of money raised.

“The news that councils are making an awful lot of money from parking fines, especially in the London boroughs, shows just how important it is for motorists to plan ahead before they journey to London in their vehicles,” commented Nick Mordin of 24 7 Parking. “It is especially unfair that drivers are bearing the brunt, especially those in the capital. Motorists need to plan ahead in these tough times and employ the services of a London parking company, such as the facilities offered by 24 7 Parking.
