Actionable Job Search Advice Helping Americans Regain Employment

August 20th, 2010

Since the Great Recession began, over eight million Americans have lost their jobs. The job search process also changed due to an extremely fierce market; a market where there are about six job applicants for every position. However, the executive job search advice in the marketplace has not changed for the most part. The same cookie-cutter and generic advice of the pre-recession days still exists. Several job seekers still do not know how to conduct an effective search due to a lack of experience (conducting a search every four years or so). As a result, the average length of unemployment and unemployment insurance have increased substantially.

From my experience interacting with job seekers in person and online, several of them are predominantly applying blindly to advertised positions. As time goes by, many of them are not generating results and subsequently becoming discouraged. Several job seekers have lost their homes, vehicles, significant others, and so on due to their job loss. As an individual who was laid off in January 2009 but had the financial resources several other job seekers lacked; I decided to take action to help as many job seekers possible by creating JobRadioUSA and The Career Factory talk shows in mid 2009.

Both resources are free and provide the how-to or specifics for the job search. All job search topics are covered from lead generation to offer negotiation. This advice is from the job search trenches or has been tested in the marketplace. Thus, these resources have helped several job seekers land new positions in perhaps the toughest economy since the Great Depression.

Over a year later, the job market has not improved much. Several job seekers are still predominantly relying on advertised jobs. Many other job seekers have became discouraged and given up completely. However, most of these individuals have not been fortunate enough to learn about JobRadioUSA and its weekly career shows. Likewise, we owe it to ourselves to get the word out about these free great resources to as many job seekers possible. Whether utilizing traditional and social media and other sources; it is vital that we help all job seekers during these difficult times.

Our weekly Tuesday night online talk radio career shows on BlogTalkRadio feature a top notch career expert. These featured guests are CEOs of the top executive recruiting firms, bestselling authors, executives of outplacement firms, and so on. They share the specifics for generating job leads, converting leads to interviews, transforming interviews to job offers, and becoming resilient and valuable in the workplace. During the second half of these hour shows, job seekers can ask questions and connect with the experts subsequently. If individuals could not attend the live shows, they can download the archives anytime afterwards.

In conclusion, feel free to view these free resources and assess their value. Next inform as many job seekers about these resources and encourage them to pay it forward by doing the same. If you would like to learn more about this philanthropic initiative, feel free to contact me.
